GOAL:
After my father passed away at 57, I was determined to get in shape. Quit social smoking, start exercising, and eating well. I needed a challenge I’d enjoy: summit Mt. Rainier before I turn 50!
CONCERN:
Little climbing experience. I started hiking in my mid-40s. Did I have what it takes to summit Mt.Rainier?
PREPARATION:
I needed a way to jump start my training program with an experienced trainer. I met Rachel within my first week of moving to Seattle. Not only did I find her morning bootcamps useful the 1:1 sessions were essential!
SUCCESS:
On my birthday I passed the pre-training test and made it to just below the summit before a storm threatened and trip leaders turned us around. I felt confident and strong thanks to Rachel’s training, guidance and dedication to helping me stick to my goals. Attempt #2 is August 2020!
Sport is physical, recreational, spiritual, social, and inspirational, all at once. Rachel helps us combine the best of all those attributes.

GOAL:
Complete a 9 day intensive backpacking course without feeling like I had broken my body at the end.
CONCERN:
I was getting older and not sure my body could do what it could do a few decades earlier.
PREPARATION:
Working with Rachel on a variety of body-weight and free-weight exercises, we ensured that my core strength was stable and that all the critical parts of my body would move with strength and confidence. She also helped me increase my hiking capacity and elevation gain.
SUCCESS:
I not only made it through the course in one piece, but I felt fantastic and more energized than I had in years. Rachel helped give me the confidence to keep pushing myself no matter my age or experience level. Working with her has been a life-changer; I’m down 30 pounds and feeling like I can tackle goals that previously seemed comically out of reach.
BARBARA
GOAL:
To enjoy a 3 week trip to the Mongolian steppes which included trekking with a more experienced partner.
CONCERN:
My fears were not having enough stamina to keep up with my friend while enjoying the remarkable scenery and not be unduly hampered my RA and some other physical limitations.
PREPARATION:
Rachel and I met twice each week for strength, balance and mobility training including hiking with my new trekking poles in the Interlaken Park trails.
SUCCESS:
I felt prepared for the vigors of the trip and could easily keep up with my friend while being awe struck by the beauty and mystery of the Mongolian people, eagles and the land. The only injury was from something I ate!
