Why You Should Take a Running Class

9 (+1) Reasons Why You Should Take a Running Class*

Hey, you could run on your own, right? Or with a running partner. And there are running meet-ups to be found, for sure. So why come to an Unstill Life Half-Fast Running & Walking session? I can think of nine reasons. And a bonus reason especially for walkers and non-runners.

People come to running sessions for the community and coaching. You can jump right in and meet us for a run (or walk if you prefer). Sign up for our newsletter so you know what we’re up to. Check out our scheduled events and locations and sign up for a session, or email Rachel at rachel@unstilllife.com to explore coaching options. But read on for some really good reasons to come join us.

  1. Access Accountability – Some folks don’t need accountability to walk or run. But for most of us, there are some days that we wouldn’t get there if it weren’t for signing up and having friends and a coach keep us to it. Some also say that paying for sessions motivates them to come consistently. We don’t like to waste money.
  2. Make it Social – The group environment makes it more fun. You’ll surprise yourself with what you can do and the time will fly.
  3. Add Novelty – Get out of your running rut. You’ll be inspired by the changing locations–different settings (parks, neighborhoods). We use the environment, natural features and gamify the workout. The energy that comes from this is surprising.
  4. Tap into Expertise – The workouts are coach-designed, fun AND a solid workout. Having a coach on-hand helps you know what’s appropriate for you. How hard to push, or not. What level of challenge will build your fitness, when you should throttle back.
  5. Improve Technique – Work on your running form using cues and prompts given by a coach. Get feedback on your technique and practice form improvements.
  6. Build a Running Toolbox – Pick up drills and skills that serve as a warm up for training runs, races and everyday movement. Our warm up includes a set of drills and dynamic stretches that can set you up to run more efficiently and keep your running body healthier.
  7. Develop Needed Strength – Another benefit of coach and personal trainer instruction- learning exercises that make you strong and avoid or mitigate injuries.
  8. Vary your pace – Most people never vary their pace, and that can lead to a fitness plateau and result in injury. Learning to run at different paces, and how to do intervals is a powerful tool for building fitness and injury proofing.
  9. Connect with Your Running Advocate – Get a certified running coach’s take on your running questions. What pace should I be running if I want to get faster? How’s my form? What if I want to do my first half marathon–am I ready? How many times a week should I be running? Stuff like that, and more. You have someone who will geek out with you on all of it.
  10. Not a runner? Walkers are welcome at these sessions! They are superb for all of the above reasons, and specifically for helping walkers build important cardio fitness and reap the mental and physical health benefits that come with increased heart rate. You don’t need to be a runner to join us.

It’s all waiting for you on Wednesday nights at 6.30pm. Sign up for our weekly newsletter so you know where we’re meeting each week. See you outside!
